Digital X-Rays in Northborough, MA

woman getting dental xray in northborough officeAs long as dental x-rays have been in use, they have proven to be one of the most important diagnostic tools that we have. They allow us to see inside your teeth to detect problems that may be developing long before we would see them with the naked eye.

At Northborough Family Dental, we believe in using updated technology whenever it improves your safety and comfort. State-of-the-art digital x-rays accomplish both; they reduce your radiation exposure by as much as 90% compared to film, and the process is efficient and comfortable.

Even so, we understand that many people have concerns, so we can assure you we will only recommend an x-ray when it’s necessary for protecting your oral health. If you are in good health with no history of dental problems, we typically recommend a set of bitewing x-rays (a single image of upper and lower teeth) once a year and a full set of x-rays every five years.

Why We Choose Digital X-Rays

Aside from safety, digital x-rays offer other advantages:

Comfortable Imaging

You may recall that taking a film x-ray involved holding a clip with dental film firmly between your teeth while the image was being taken. Not only was this uncomfortable, but it often resulted in the need for another x-ray to get a clear picture.

Valuable Educational Tool

An important aspect of your dental care is patient education. Digital x-rays produce highly-detailed images that we can display on your chairside monitor. Just like any other digital image, Dr. Moheban can enlarge it, zoom in, and even rotate so you can see the same detail he sees.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and your dental x-rays are no exception! When you can see for yourself the tiny cavity or infection that’s developing, you can easily see why we recommend treatment.

Easy Access to Your Information

We store your digital x-rays securely on our in-house network, which makes them readily available for reference or to monitor certain conditions. We can also send the images to specialists or your insurance company as necessary.

Safe for the Environment

Since we don’t have to use chemicals to produce a film x-ray, there is no hazardous waste to pollute the environment!

Frequently Asked Questions

At Northborough Family Dentistry, we believe that preventative maintenance is the name of the game. Catching problems early prevents them from getting worse and causing additional damage. This approach saves you time and money in the future.

As part of prevention, we recommend x-rays for our patients. They can help us identify problems in the teeth, under the gums, and in the jawbone that might be invisible to the eye.

Are Dental X-Rays in Northborough Safe?

Yes, the level of radiation that comes from film x-rays is deemed safe. However, at Northborough Family Dental, we use digital x-rays, which produce significantly less radiation than film x-rays, further reducing patient exposure.
