If it’s been a while since you had your teeth cleaned, perhaps due to COVID-19 restrictions or simply because life got away from you, you may have some fear and trepidation over what to expect at your next dental cleaning. Part of that may include dread of judgment for letting your oral health go for longer than usual.
When you have a teeth cleaning in our Northborough dental office, you can rest assured you are entering a judgment-free zone.
Will My Dental Cleaning Hurt?
Thanks to modern dental technology, even if you have extra tartar buildup, our skilled hygienists can use ultrasonic water cleaners to remove heavy buildup without the pressure of scraping using handheld instruments. While most times, hygienists will do both a hand scale and an ultrasonic scale, you will be amazed at how efficiently we can clean your teeth and give you those smooth, fresh pearly whites we all love.
Your dental cleaning should not hurt, but everyone is different. Some people have sensitive teeth, and some people fall asleep in the chair because it feels like a relaxing gum massage. If you ever feel any discomfort, just say, “ah,” and we will get you comfortable and numb before continuing. Your comfort is our top priority. And hey, your six-month checkup can be a completely pain-free experience with our skilled and gentle dentists and hygienists.
How Often Should I Have My Teeth Cleaned?
For most healthy patients, we recommend a minimum of a six-month check-up and teeth cleaning. This is very general advice, however. As you age, you may find you build tartar more quickly, and having an additional teeth cleaning is an inexpensive way to keep your health on track.
If you have a history of gum disease, you are more likely to develop gum disease again in the future. It’s one of those conditions that requires constant and diligent care to keep it at bay. We may recommend a maintenance schedule to support exceptional oral health now and for a lifetime.
