CEREC Crowns & Bridges in Northborough

older man and woman happily sitting in a Northborough parkAt Northborough Family Dental, your comfort is very important to us. We want to ensure that all your dental visits are as uncomplicated and stress-free as possible so you can feel good about getting the essential care you need. For this reason, we choose to invest in state-of-the-art technology that increases your comfort and streamlines your appointments.

One of the technologies we are most excited about is CEREC same-day crowns. Using computer-aided design and manufacture (CAD/CAM), Northborough dentist Dr. Alexander Moheban can produce a fully customized esthetic dental crown in one visit to our office.

Dr. Moheban has been designing CEREC same-day crowns since 2009. Today, as one of only five CEREC mentors in the entire state of Massachusetts, he shares his significant expertise with other dentists.

What Are CEREC Crowns and Bridges?

A dental crown is recommended when a tooth is too damaged to be repaired with a filling; bridges are used to fill the space left behind when a tooth is lost. A CEREC restoration designed and placed here at our Northborough dental office functions just like a lab-fabricated dental restoration, but the process is much more efficient.

CEREC stands for CEREC crown machine at Northborough Family DentalCEramic REConstruction and is a technology we use for designing same-day restorations like crowns, inlays, and onlays. Restorations made using the CEREC system are different from those of lab-fabricated crowns because Dr. Moheban completes the entire process during a single visit to our Northborough office.

No messy impressions and multiple injections, no temporary crowns, and no two-week wait for your finished restoration. With CEREC, you will leave our office the same day with a durable porcelain crown that blends seamlessly with your smile.

How Does the CEREC Process Work?

Dr. Moheban starts the process by preparing your natural tooth just as he would for a lab-fabricated crown, but that's where the similarity ends!

Next, he takes digital impressions and images of your teeth, shares them with CAD/CAM software, and uses them to produce a virtual 3-D model of your tooth. The specifications are sent to a milling machine in our office that creates your customized crown from a block of porcelain. When your crown is finished, it will be checked for fit and cemented onto your prepared tooth.

We can also design your bridge using CEREC technology, but since it is a multi-piece unit, we send the specifications to a lab that prepares your bridge. However, this process usually only takes two or three days to complete.

Dr. Moheban will be happy to sit down with you and discuss your needs. We have many options for restoring damaged teeth, and he will help you decide if a CEREC crown or bridge is the most appropriate choice for you.

Completed in One Visit

I was pleasantly surprised to find that my crown was completed in one visit. No more temporary, then return for the permanent one. I’m glad I switched to this practice! And I like the savings plan as well. - Karen

Frequently Asked Questions

Sometimes, a tooth crown may need adjustments to ensure your bite is comfortable and functioning correctly.

Your Northborough dentist, a skilled professional, will choose the best way to adjust your crown without damaging the porcelain, which may or may not include drilling. They may be able to make incremental adjustments by sanding or smoothing the crown.

When to Have Your Crown Adjusted

If you're experiencing discomfort when biting or chewing your food, your crown may be causing your bite to be off. Take control of your dental health and contact your dentist for an adjustment.

If your crown becomes worn or chipped, it may need smoothing or an adjustment.

You also may notice wear or your crown not fitting properly if it's at the end of its lifespan, which tends to be 12 to 15 years for porcelain crowns.

Temperature sensitivity may also indicate that your crown needs attention. If you experience tooth sensitivity, don't wait to contact your dentist.

Advances in dental technology are occurring at a rapid pace, and CEREC crown technology is one of the most impressive.

CEREC stands for Ceramic REConstruction and streamlines the process of having a dental crown placed. Instead of a crown that must be fabricated by an off-site lab and takes weeks to produce, CEREC crowns are designed and created right here in our Northborough dental office.

Advantages of CEREC Crowns

Not only are CEREC crowns efficient, but there are also advantages that make the process more comfortable for you. If you have had a crown placed in the past, you may remember sitting with a big metal tray filled with messy impression paste in your mouth while you wait for the material to set. The CEREC process does away with this step because we take digital impressions that are far more accurate and easy to produce.

Also, since your crowns are produced during one visit, you don’t have to deal with multiple injections or the uncomfortable process of having a temporary crown placed and then removed during the next visit.

CEREC technology allows us to provide porcelain crowns in Northborough in a single visit, offering convenience without sacrificing quality. If you're curious about whether same-visit crowns are the right solution for you, the team at Northborough Family Dental is happy to answer your questions and schedule a consultation. To learn more, give us a call, and we'll help you decide if this option aligns with your dental needs.

Your dentist considers you for a CEREC crown in Northborough if your tooth is weak and vulnerable to fractures. In many cases, this fragility is due to deep decay, trauma, or following root canal therapy.

A tooth crown is a tooth-shaped cap that protects a damaged tooth, and it can also conceal tooth flaws that may detract from your smile aesthetic.

The process starts with digital impressions, which means you’ll not have to endure goopy impression materials. We then send these impressions to our on-site milling machine, where your crown is fabricated. Each CEREC one-visit crown takes approximately 15 minutes to mill in our state-of-the-art milling machine. Finally, your dentist provides final adjustments and ensures that the color of your crown matches your smile.

Most patients do not report any discomfort following a CEREC same-day crown placement, but every case is different, and some patients can experience minor discomfort that subsides after a couple of days.
